Community Organizations in Ocean City, NJ

Your Ocean City getaway is about more than flip-flops and sunscreen. A visit to our coastal community means you can support local organizations working to strengthen the island and help neighbors thrive. Community organizations in the area range from social services that support local families to groups focused on outreach, events, and year-round community support. Together, these organizations help support the community and contribute to the welcoming spirit visitors experience throughout the year.

Simple Ways to Share the Vacation Love

Heading home after a week of beach bliss? Unopened, non-perishable groceries can help support local families. Before you head home, consider dropping off items at the Ecumenical Council Food Cupboard at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church. Accepted donations include:

  • Unopened pantry staples
  • Canned goods and non-perishables
  • Unopened snacks
  • Unopened, non-perishable breakfast items or baking supplies

A simple grocery drop-off can help stock shelves for local families long after your trip ends.

Local donation events give visitors another way to help. The local police department has teamed up with organizations such as the Ecumenical Council for events like Faith and Blue Weekend, during which officers collect donations at grocery stores around town. If you’re shopping and see a donation collection, toss in a few extra items. It’s as easy as that.

Year-Round Community Support

The Ecumenical Council has served the community since 1983, operating both the Food Cupboard and Clothes Closet to help local families. Located at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, the Food Cupboard is open Monday and Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

While summer brings the scent of saltwater taffy and sounds of Boardwalk laughter, volunteers work behind the scenes to help keep shelves stocked and provide access to clean clothing for local residents. The collaborative effort reflects the spirit of a community that looks out for one another.

Community Resources and Programs

Ocean City Neighborhood and Social Services offers emergency food referrals, referrals to community agencies and assistance with utility-related applications. A local community outreach series, “OC Talks!,” brings together local professionals and service organizations to address important issues facing the community.

In addition to the Ecumenical Council Food Cupboard, the city operates a separate Community Food Pantry at the Public Safety Building, 821 Central Ave. Eligible residents can apply to receive a month’s supply of non-perishable food, culturally diverse food options and personal care items.
