At OCNJ, your family’s safety is our priority. By the third week of June, our family-friendly beaches hire lifeguards to work the shore. Many areas are guarded starting Memorial Day weekend. Until Labor Day during the week, lifeguards are on duty from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They work until 5:30 p.m. on holidays and weekends.
You should swim at guarded locations only when the lifeguards are on duty. First aid and emergency personnel are nearby, too. Find changing rooms and restrooms in comfort stations along the shore.
Several beaches are reserved for surfing, including 7th Street, 16th Street and Waverly Boulevard. For visitors in wheelchairs, there’s the city’s free Surf Chair program. Reserve yours ahead of time!
