Beach Scavenger Hunt

After what seems like an eternity indoors, you’re excited to head to the beach with the family. What are some fun games to create the most magical memories on your trip?

Why not plan some beach activities for kids of all ages to enjoy? You can learn how to play beach bingo and incorporate a scavenger hunt. Here’s how.

What You Need for a Beach Bingo Scavenger Hunt

Is your family ready to have a blast in the fun and sun? What will you need? Start by gathering the following supplies:

• Bingo cards: You can print these online or draw your own on notebook paper.
• Markers or pens: If you have groovy bingo markers, break them out — but a pencil or pen does the trick, too.
• A timer (optional): You can also synchronize your waterproof watches. Alternatively, if your kids are older, you can go with, “The first one back with a completed card wins.”
• A camera (optional): One way to play is to have participants snap photos of their finds. However, if not everyone has a cellphone, you can use an alternative method, such as jotting down the location of various items.
• A list of items to seek: You can find a list of suggestions below!

How to Play Beach Bingo, Scavenger Hunt-Style

How do you play beach bingo with a scavenger hunt flair? Here’s what to do:

• Have each player fill out their card: Letting them do so themselves makes the game fairer. Your kiddos can’t complain, “How come they got the easy items to find?”
• Set the timer: If you are playing with younger children, you don’t want them wandering too far away. Stick to the simplest items on the list and give only two minutes or less. That way, you can keep an eye on where they go.
• First one to complete a bingo wins: You don’t have to declare winners or losers, but an element of competition makes this beach activity for kids more fun. If you like, you can reward the winner by letting them select where you go for dinner. You can also give small prizes like candy or a coloring book.

Suggested Items for Your Beach Bingo Scavenger Hunt

Here’s where cellphones come into play — your kiddos can use them to snap pics of things they can’t carry back to you. You can stick with items they can carry, like a seagull feather or a seashell. Otherwise, go crazy with these suggestions:

• Sandcastle
• Beach umbrella
• Sunglasses
• Sun hat
• Flip flops
• Seashell
• Popsicle
• Surfboard
