Shaina Horton is a young Ocean City mother and friend to many, who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. A fund raiser is set to help the family cope with expenses during a very trying period. Shaina is currently at Cooper Hospital and her condition is being monitored by the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. The event will be held at the Flanders Hotel, 11th and Boardwalk, on Fri., Oct. 1 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. The evening includes dinner, dancing, beverages, a silent auction and entertainment.

Rock Superstar Dave Mason, headlines at the Music Pier, Sat. Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 and going fast for this concert that benefits the Ocean City Education Foundation. A member of the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, Mason has recorded with such giants as Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones and has been a member of the legendary bands, Traffic and Fleetwood Mac.

The popular City Wide Yard Sale sponsored by Main Street and directed by Marcia Shallcross is set for 8 a.m. till noon at the Tabernacle Grounds, 5th and Asbury Ave. and at homes throughout the City this Saturday, Oct. 2. There a few 10x10 ft. spots left at the Tabernacle for $25 or $30 with table, call Marcia at 398-4662. Buyers can pick up a map with the City wide locations Thursday through Saturday at City Hall, City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury, Chamber of Commerce Info Center, 16 E. 9th St., across from TD Bank and at the Tabernacle Grounds the day of the sale.

The Ocean City PTA Clothing Drive is also scheduled for Sat., from noon till 3 p.m. at the Intermediate School, 1800 Bay Ave. The following items will be accepted: wearable useable clothing, shoes, belts, handbags, linens, towels, curtains, stuffed animals, hard toys. (no VCR tapes, CD’s or books, please.) The PTA earns dollars by the pound for all items collected. Funds will support PTA programs.

Walk For the Wounded, presented by Ocean City Home Bank, raises money to help wounded veterans. It will begin Sat., Oct. 2 at 11:30 a.m. at the Music Pier, with opening ceremonies at 11 a.m. and registration at 10:30 a.m. To participate without walking send donations to Operation First Response, c/o of Ocean City Home Bank, 1001 Asbury Ave., Ocean City, N.J. 08226.

The Fall Farmers Market in the downtown continues every Saturday through October (except for block party Sat.) from 8 a.m. till 1 p.m. at City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave.

A Half Marathon throughout the City plus a 5K Boardwalk race is set for Sun., Oct. 3. Start times are 9 a.m. for the 13.1 mile Half Marathon and 9:15 a.m. for the 5 K Run/Walk at the Ocean City Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace.

The American Legion, Morvay-Miley Post 524 invites you to its Pancake Breakfast on Sun., Oct. 3 from 8 a.m. till noon at the Masonic Hall, 10th and Wesley Ave. Menu includes pancakes, sausage, coffee, tea, milk, juice. Adults $5, children $3. Proceeds benefit veteran’s projects.
