The rain postponed Ocean City Fire Department’s popular Open House will be held, Thurs., Oct.21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at 6th and Asbury Ave. Headquarters. This event is geared to all ages. It includes demonstrations, safety tips, face painting, plenty of refreshments and photo ops with fire personnel on and off the engines.

Fright Night presented by the Community Arts Project will be held Fri., Oct. 22 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Flanders Hotel, 11th and Boardwalk. Join a cast of characters for an evening of suspense and thrills. Tickets are $65 and will benefit public art and the Shaina Horton Palermo Fund to assist a young Ocean City mother recover from cancer. The Farmers Market continues this Saturday, Oct. 23 from 8 a.m. till 1 p.m. at City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave. As part of the event, Jennifer Bernardini her family and friends will be selling Cup Cakes for the Cure to support the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure event, a 60 mile walk in Dallas, Texas to find a cure for Breast Cancer. So buy those tasty cupcakes on Saturday and support a great cause.

Beach Sweep: The Ocean City Environmental Commission, Clean Communities Program and Clean Ocean Action are sponsoring a Fall Beach Sweep, Sat., Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All interested in clean, healthy beaches are invited to participate. Data cards will be used to record the litter that is picked up and information will be entered into a national data base. Teams of two or three will be formed to pick up and record the litter. Volunteers should meet at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace for instructions and equipment. For information or to pre-register, call 609-525-9285.

The Ocean City PTA has scheduled a Doggie Costume Contest for Sat., Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. till noon at the Sports and Civic Center Parking Lot, 6th St. off Boardwalk. Entry is $10. Free Hayrides and family fun on the Boardwalk are set to begin Sat., Oct.23 and continue on the 24th, 30th and 31st from noon till 4 p.m. Families can board the hayrides at 6th or 12th St. on the Boardwalk. There will be trick or treating by merchants displaying a pumpkin in front of their stores. Children can pick up free pumpkins at the Children’s Pavilion, 11th and Boardwalk.

Downtown Merchants Trick or Treat is set for Oct. 30 from noon till 3 p.m. from 6th to 11th Sts. on Asbury Ave. at participating merchants.

Trick or Treat throughout Ocean City will be held on Sun., Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Chamber of Commerce Welcome Night will be held Oct. 27 at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace from 6 to 8 p.m. This event is open to the public and acquaints visitors with City organizations, products and services. Admission is free. There will be prizes and give-aways.

Ocean City’s 40th Annual Halloween Parade is set for Thurs., Oct. 28 starting 7:15 p.m. with route from 6th to 11th Sts. on Asbury Ave. Registration closes Oct. 26 and is available only online at www.ochp.blogspot.com. Call the hotline 1-800-813-5580 for assistance. All calls will be answered.

The Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Ceremony of the Ocean City Community Center, 1735 Simpson Ave., are scheduled for Fri., Oct. 29th at 1 p.m. There will be light refreshments and tours. The Public is invited.
