(May 14) THE SPRING BLOCK PARTY will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday from 5th to 14th Streets on Asbury Avenue. More than 350 crafters, food vendors, music, free pony rides for children and more. Pony rides at the Ocean City Tabernacle grounds and entertainment at cross streets runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Public Service Booths will be located on 9th Street between Asbury and Central avenues. (May 13-14) There will be BOARDWALK AND DOWNTOWN MERCHANT TABLE SALES from 6th to 14th Streets on the Boardwalk and Asbury Ave. (No outside vendors.)

(May 13) A NIGHT OF ROCK ’N ROLL, an oldies concert at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, at 7 p.m., doors open 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by the American Legion, the program features “The Brooklyn Bridge” plus 45 RPM, Billy and the Essentials, and the Soul Survivors. (May 14) The Ocean City Post Office is conducting a FOOD DRIVE for the Ecumenical Council Community Food Cupboard. Residents are asked to put out nonperishable food items by their mailboxes to be picked up by their postman. Some items requested include cans of fruit, meat, tuna, juice, canned ravioli, Spaghetti O’s, peanut butter, jelly, laundry and dish detergent, and personal items, i.e. shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

(May 15) CAPE BANK JAZZ @THE POINT: There will be two separate concerts as part of the South Jersey Jazz Society’s Cape Jazz Festival. The Atlantic City Jazz Band will perform at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 17th Street and Simpson Ave. from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Jazz Big Band Salute to Frank Sinatra will be featured at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. For tickets visit www.southjerseyjazz.org or call (609) 233-1820.

(May 21) YOUTH EMPOWERMENT LEADERSHIP EXPLOSION (YELE): All Ocean City and area youth are invited to Pecks Beach Village family courtyard (204 Fourth Street) at noon Saturday, May 21, for an event to give them the tools they need to thrive. YELE includes food vendors, prizes and appearances by David Klemic, a former member of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs; Atlantic City police officer Michael Braxton speaking about “Overcoming Life Challenges”; and music by Paul Watson & Company. All proceeds benefit the Maliha Chowdhury Scholarship fund at Ocean City High School.

(May 21) Annual MILES FOR MELANOMA Ocean City 5k/Walk and Run. Registration begins 8:30 a.m. at 34th St. Beach. Race begins 10 a.m. Help raise critical funding to fuel new treatments, education and advocacy for melanoma. (May 21-22) THE MAGNIFICENT TREASURE HUNT: The ECRDA’S seventh annual open beach hunt at the Ocean City Music Pier. Compete in a series of metal detector hunts for great prizes. Special kids hunt on Saturday and gold and silver hunt on Sunday. No experience needed. Rental detectors for kids who hunt for only $5. All are welcome. (May 27) BUSINESS PERSON’S PLUNGE: The colorful Business Person’s Plunge will be held at noon. It will be preceded by lifeguards and city officials, who will officially unlock  the ocean for the summer season.

REMINDER: Local Charities that would like to apply for funds from the Miss Night In Venice Pageant Committee should mail their requests to the Miss Night in Venice Pageant Committee, PO Box 433, Ocean City, N.J. 08226. Enclose name, phone number, brochures, if available, and other pertinent information. Requests must be received by May 14th. Organizations that have received funds in the past are eligible to apply again.
