What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 6/7/17

Tickets now on sale for Sept. 16 Gymnastics Expo with Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson

A week of great deals at Ocean City restaurants starts on Friday, June 9. But the opening of Restaurant Week is only one of the special events this weekend as summer starts to warm up in Ocean City.

Trombone Shorty will bring his big New Orleans sound to the Music Pier on Friday evening. Costumed pets take over the Ocean City Boardwalk for the Show Us Your Paws parade on Saturday afternoon. And the Miss Artisans Pageant takes place on Saturday evening.

Restaurant Week offers a great chance to sample new Ocean City dining options or to get great prices at favorite spots. Participating restaurants offer special fixed-price options, usually for two. This year’s specials run June 9 through June 16, and as of Monday, 26 different restaurants from boardwalk to bay were participating. Restaurants and specials are listed at eatinocnj.com.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, carries on the brass jazz tradition with a modern twist. The Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue concert begins at 8 p.m. June 9 at the Ocean City Music Pier. Tickets start at $49. Visit ticketmaster.com or call 1-800-745-3000. Tickets also will be available at City Hall during the week and at the Music Pier Box Office on the night of the show.

The Show Us Your Paws Parade on Saturday, June 10th, will include many of the contests from the Woofin’ Paws Pet Fashion Show that was formerly a spring event here in Ocean City. Costumed dogs and other pets compete in categories such as “Best Super Hero Dog,” “Most Patriotic,” “Best Surfer Dog/Bathing Beauty,” “Pet/Owner Look-Alike,” “Best Dressed Dog,” “Best Decorated Wagon” and “Best Dressed Pet.” Contestants show off their stuff in a parade that starts at 4:45 p.m. and goes from Sixth Street to 14th Street. The parade also includes entries such as a Mummers band, pageant winners and others. All the fun benefits the Humane Society of Ocean City.
