What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 2/21/18

Tickets go on sale March 1 for a special Ocean City Pops performance on July 29 featuring the remarkable vocal talents of Jackie Evancho.

The young singer first dazzled American television audiences at the age of 10 – gaining global recognition with her debut on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” She finished as runner-up in that competition and has continued to make history with achievements that include: youngest solo platinum artist, youngest Top 5 debut artist ever in the United Kingdom, youngest person to give solo concert at the Lincoln Center and the highest-ranking debut artist of 2010. All six of Evancho’s albums have hit No. 1 on the Billboard Classical chart.

She will perform with the Ocean City Pops orchestra 7:30 p.m. July 29 at the Ocean City Music Pier. Tickets ($30 to $45) will be available starting March 1 at oceancityvacation.com/boxoffice.

On the night before her show, Evancho will join the 64th annual Night in Venice parade (July 28) and greet fans from the deck of a boat in this year’s procession.

Evancho is maturing as a singer, creative artist and young woman. She performed the national anthem at the 2017 presidential inauguration and recently released a long-awaited new album, “Two Hearts.” The album not only features popular hits both old and new, and classical crossover Italian songs, but also Jackie’s emerging gifts as a collaborative songwriter.

The album’s title is described as saying a lot about her growth: Jackie’s heart is always in the classical crossover singing her fans love, but she is discovering another facet of her work, a love of songwriting and a new, expressive pop sound.

The Evancho performance on July 29 will be just one show in a star-studded lineup for the Ocean City Pops this summer. The schedule will include shows to appeal to a wide variety of musical tastes. Look for more announcements in the weeks to come.
