What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 6/2/16

The OCEAN CITY FLOWER SHOW will be staged for the 44th time Friday, June 3 through Sunday, June 5 at the Ocean City Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Admission is free. This year’s theme is “Island Hopping.” Show hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. (June 2) WONDER’S BIRTHDAY BASH at Gillian’s Wonderland Pier, 6th and Boardwalk, from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The event features a free fireworks display at 9 p.m. All rides 2 tickets. Wonder Bear, the park mascot, will be available all night for photos.

 

(All of June) The Ocean Arts Center, 17th and Simpson Ave., presents paintings “In the MANNER OF MARC CHAGALL.” The area’s finest artists will participate in this themed show, honoring the legendary artistic genius. A “Meet the Artists” reception, free and open to the public, will be held on Fri., June 10 at 7 p.m. Paintings will be for sale.

(Through June) The Ocean City Fine Arts League celebrates “THE BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS OF SUMMER” a flower themed exhibition. There will be a “Meet the Artist Reception” and awards ceremony on June 10th from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at its gallery, 608 Asbury Ave. Event is free. All artwork is for sale. Call (609) 814-0308.

(June 4) SKATO WITH KATO: A skateboard competition for all ages begins 4 p.m. at the Skateboard Park, 5th and Asbury Ave. Best Trick Awards will be given in 3 age brackets. (June 5) CAPE SHORE CHORALE presents “On Broadway” directed by Scott J. Breiner at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 30th and Bay Ave. Program begins 3 p.m. Admission is free.

(June 8) GRACE KELLY HIGH TEA: Tickets are available for the second Grace Kelly High Tea set for the Flanders Hotel Crystal Ballroom at 2 p.m. This year’s tea will highlight Grace’s life as a princess in Monaco. Tickets are $35 for Museum members, $38 general admission. Event sponsored by the Ocean City Historical Museum.  No tickets sold at the door. Call (609) 399-1801.

(June 11) SHOW US YOUR PAWS PARADE: This Dog Parade is sponsored by the Humane Society of Ocean City. It runs from 6th to 14th St. on the Boardwalk starting at 4:45 p.m. Registration begins at 4pm at 6th and the Boardwalk. There will be a variety of award categories including Best Super Hero, Surfer, Owner look-Alike, Bathing Beauty and decorated Wagons. (June 15-18) THE MISS NEW JERSEY PAGEANT returns to Ocean City.  Boardwalk Parade 7 p.m. June 15th, preliminary competitions June 16th and 17th with finals on the 18th Tickets can be purchased by phone toll free at 1-866-967-8167 or on the website www.missnewjersey.net.

BOATS WANTED FOR 62ND ANNUAL NIGHT IN VENICE, July 16: The City’s Annual Boat Parade is one of the largest in the world. Start time is 6:30 p.m. Boats parade from Longport Bridge to Tennessee Ave. along the Bay. NEW THIS YEAR: A “Collegiate Cup” will be awarded to the boat that best celebrates school pride. Two other new categories include Best Non Profit/Community Organization and Best Commercial Entry.

The optional theme for this year’s event is “Destination America.”  Boats and homes can be decorated with themes that embrace the cultural and regional pride of great cities and landmarks across the United States. A fireworks display will cap off the evening. Boat owners can register early to take advantage of a $50 gift card. All participants will receive a free photo of their boat in the Parade. A commemorative mug featuring the theme of the Parade will be given to all boat and home contestants.
