OCEAN CITY, N.J. --- This year’s edition of Ocean City’s Quiet Festival will feature a free program that will entertain kids, their parents and the public.

Highlight of the three day event will be a quiet extravaganza that includes a Quiet Pet Contest, a Quiet Magician, a Quiet Artist who will draw a cartoon of your child’s favorite animal, the Quiet Turtle Singers with their giant tortoise Big Bart, an ethereal harpist and the Snore at the Shore, the world’s only quiet snoring contest.

Impossible you say? No one can possibly present all of this quietness any place on today’s mille second, bombastic planet. “Not so,” says NAP, the National Assn. of Tired People, presenters of the Quiet Festival for the past ten years with the blessing of the City. “We were providing quietness before quietness was cool.”

“It’s a done deal!” The program is set for Sat., Nov. 9th starting 10:30 a.m. at the Senior Center, 17th and Simpson Ave. Enter quietly from the 18th Street side of the complex. The Senior Center will be the first room on your right.

Some pertinent details: The Quiet Pet contest provides quiet pet owners a unique opportunity to show off their best friends and win prizes. It is open to White Mice, Hamsters, Guinea Pigs, Turtles, Rabbits, Ferrets and Cooing Birds. You want to enter another kind of quiet pet? Let us know. Those interested in poetry are invited to attend to either read, listen or ask questions.

On Sunday, Nov. 10th, folks are on their own. Quiet Festival organizers suggest you fly a kite, take a walk on the boardwalk, listen to the ocean, contemplate the stars, give your doggie a belly rub and perhaps recite the Quiet Festival Lament: “I do not hear your song/ I do not hear your words/ I never watch the moon/ Or listen to the birds/ I’m lost in all the noise/ That saturates this space/ I’m weary of the clatter/ Find me a quiet place.”
