THE SNORE AT THE SHORE…ZZZZZZZZZ - QUIET PET CONTEST FOR WHITE MICE, HAMSTERS, GUINEA PIGS, TURTLES, ETC...

Two Quiet Contests will be featured at Ocean City’s 10th Annual Quiet Festival this year.

An exciting new event, The Snore at the Shore ©, will challenge one’s ability to imitate quiet snoring in keeping with the sleepy, laid back, personality of the event.

Participants will have the option of lying on a cot or sitting in a comfortable chair.

“We want to create an authentic atmosphere for this sound breaking new event,” declared Mark Soifer, Festival Chairman.

The event is scheduled for Sat., Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. in the Senior Center of the Ocean City Community Complex, 17th and Simpson Ave. It is sponsored by NAP (the National Assn. of Tired People). Entry is free and prizes will be awarded. NAP officials are expecting a tremendous response and would appreciate a warning in advance that you will be there. Call (609) 525-9300, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or if this is too much trouble just show up ready to snore quietly.

The White Mice, Hamster and Guinea Pig Challenge went quite well last year so will be repeated as a special event in this year’s Festival on Nov. 10. White Mice and Hamsters are nocturnal and usually sleep during the day…which makes them perfect for the Quiet Festival. These pets will be judged for their lack of energy, unusual sleeping positions and disinterest in their surroundings. There will also be prizes for costumes and decorated cages and layouts.

An exercise wheel will be provided for any mouse or hamster that feels the need to abandon its instincts and work out. During the first contest in 2011 a number of white mice went berserk on the wheel much to the delight of spectators.

Turtles and reptiles are welcome. There will be a special visit by the Turtle Singers with their awesome, gigantic turtle. This contest will be held starting 10:30 a.m. at the Senior Center and will be a perfect complement to the snoring contest. Snoring and hyper-active white mice. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Entry is free and prizes will be awarded. Again we would like a warning in advance if you and your pet will be there so that we can provide proper crowd control. Call
