Ocean City and Chamber Partner on Clothes Closet

Ocean City, NJ - The City of Ocean City and the Ocean City Regional

Chamber of Commerce have joined together to build a new building for the Clothes Closet.

The Clothes Closet which is operated by the Ocean City Ecumenical Council will continue to be located on City property at 5th Street and West Avenue. Last year, the City budgeted funds in its Capital Plan to purchase a modular building for the Clothes Closet. Michele Gillian, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, approached the City and offered to coordinate the architecture and construction of a more aesthetically pleasing building.

The planned building is a one story cottage and will be handicapped accessible. A covered porch will face West Avenue and the base of the building will be trimmed with lattice. The 828 square foot building will be twice the size of the existing building and will be built with volunteer labor. The City will pay for the sewer and for the utility construction and for the building materials.

Mayor Sal Perillo stated "The Clothes Closet provides an important service to our community and we are happy to work with the Chamber and the Ecumenical Council to insure that a quality building is erected to serve our residents for years to come."

Chamber Members Tom Gill, Scott Holliday and Jay Gillian have played a leadership role in coordinating the volunteer effort. Jay Gillian stated, "We are all very excited about being part of such a great project that will enhance the services of the Clothes Closet and our community."
