Imelda Papin, World Renowned Singer to Perform in OC

OCEAN CITY, N.J. --- She's a world renowned singer, recording star and actress. She has performed in venues from Hong Kong to Las Vegas.

On Sat., June 26, Imelda Papin, "Asia's Queen of Sentimental Songs," will highlight Ocean City's Tribute to the Philippines. She will be featured at the City's historic Music Pier Auditorium, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, at 8 p.m.

Tickets are only $20, thanks to event sponsors who are underwriting the performance. Last year when Papin captivated crowds in Las Vegas prices ranged from $35 to $85. Her appearance in Ocean City was arranged by Filipino singer-producer, Rene Sese, who operates an accommodations business in this family resort.

Ocean City recently established a sister-city relationship with San Jose Occidental, Mindoro in the Philippines. The kick off event will be the weekend of June 26-27. In addition to Papin's show, there will be a two day crafts and cultural festival showcasing Philippine-made products plus exhibits from the Department of Tourism of the Philippines and Ocean City's Department of Tourism.

There will be special games for youngsters and discount coupons for amusement rides, restaurants, accommodations and shopping provided to Filipino visitors.

Papin grew up in a remote village of the Philippines, only accessible by boat. After winning a regional talent contest, she moved with her family to Manila where she began singing in small lounges and studying voice. Soon Papin moved up to five star hotels and eventually to venues in Hong Kong and Bangkok. Here she became known as "Asia's Queen of Sentimental Songs" because of her heartfelt, emotional performances.

Upon returning to the Philippines, Papin recorded an award winning movie theme song which went platinum. Her records sold in the millions, she starred in films, hosted an award winning television program and was inducted into the Filipino Hall of Fame.

International acclaim followed with performances at Caesar's Palace, Atlantic City and concert tours in Europe, Asia and other major cities in the United States. Ms. Papin hosted radio and TV shows in Las Vegas and Los Angeles and was the first Filipino artist to headline a telethon in Los Angeles.

Heeding the call to serve the public, Imelda became the only woman elected and re-elected Vice Governor in the Province of Camarines Sur. She was presented the Outstanding Vice Governor of the Philippines Award for her humanitarian projects and continues this work through her IAP Foundation.

"We are very honored that Imelda Papin will be performing here," said City Public Relations Director Mark Soifer. "We especially appreciate the work of Mr. Sese who we have named Ocean City's Ambassador of Tourism. His efforts have been invaluable."
