Harriers For Hounds, a 5 K Run-Walk to benefit the Ocean City Humane Society, is set for Thanksgiving morning, Thurs., Nov. 27, at 8:30 a.m., rain or shine. The race begins at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, proceeds on the Boardwalk to 23rd St. and back. A kids’ race is set for ½ mile out and back in the opposite direction of the 5K.

Participants can register on line at www.Active.com , on race day from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. at the Music Pier or through mail: H.S.O.C. Entry forms are also available at the Humane Society, 1 Shelter Rd. off Tennessee Ave., the Community Center, 17th and Simpson Ave. and City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., 609-525-9300.

There will be awards for both races according to age groups. Long sleeve, custom designed T shirts will be given to all pre-registered participants and during the day of the race while they last. There will be post race refreshments and door prizes. Entry fee for 5K is $20 before Nov. 15, family of 4, $60. Race day entry is $25. Kids run is $10.

The Ocean City Humane Society was recently named one of the outstanding shelters for its size in the nation. It is a no kill facility that rescues and finds homes for abandoned and neglected dogs and cats.

The money raised from the run will be used to purchase a community/shelter emergency response trailer as well as to update dog kennels at the shelter.
