Olympic Gold Medalist Nastia Liukin Named Night in Venice Grand Marshal

Nastia Liukin will serve as grand marshal for the 62nd annual Night in Venice boat parade on Saturday, July 16, 2016.

Liukin was a five-time Olympic gymnastics medalist and the all-around champion at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. She will work as an NBC Sports commentator for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Liukin is known to many from her appearances in “Dancing With the Stars” and numerous other television shows.

Mark Benevento, President of Adventure Golf South who also owns the Haunted Golf and Congo Falls mini-golf courses on the Ocean City Boardwalk, said he saw an attraction like Encounters in Monterey, CA and knew he had to bring it to Ocean City.

“We wanted something exciting and different – something the whole family can enjoy,” said Benevento. “With three separate experiences, it’s fun for all ages, gets people actively engaged and creates great memories. It's the first of its kind on the Boardwalk.”

6 New Ribbon Cuttings Held in Ocean City, NJ

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce is happy to announce six new Grand Opening ceremonies were held this week. Ribbon cuttings were held at Fisherman’s Cove, Bubble Tea and Beyond, Cone Appetit, Shades of Ocean City, Jon & Patty’s, and Hearth and Sole.

Fisherman’s Cove is new for Ocean City Boardwalk this summer.  Owner Anthony Bayham cut the ribbon in celebration. Humane Society of OC Announces Annual Fundraisers

The Humane Society of Ocean City (HSOC) will hold its annual golf tournament on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Harbor Pines Country Club in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. The HSOC will then hold its first “Show Us Your Paws” parade on Saturday, June 11, 2016 with registration starting at 4:00 p.m. at 6th Street on the Boardwalk. Both events serve as HSOC fundraisers.

Voters nationwide have chosen Ocean City, NJ as the Best Beach in America.

Coastal Living magazine announced the winner of its “Best Beach” contest on Monday morning. Ocean City received more than 100,000 votes in the final round to win the title.

Ocean City Bike Advocates Receive Highest Honor

NJ Bike & Walk Coalition's 'Advocate of the Year' Awards Presented to BikeOCNJ at Annual Summit

New Jersey’s statewide bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organization has designated Fair Haven Mayor Benjamin Lucarelli and Ocean City bike advocacy group BikeOCNJ as the 2016 recipients of its Advocate of the Year Award.  Selected by the Board of Directors of the NJ Bike & Walk Coalition each year, individuals and organizations are given the award in recognition of their excellence in the bicycle and pedestrian advocacy movement.

"This year's recipients truly distinguished themselves through their highly effective advocacy efforts," said Brian Stolar, Chair of the NJ Bike & Walk Coalition Board of Directors.  "Mayor Lucarelli and BikeOCNJ were instrumental in seeing Complete Streets realized not only as a policy and planning principle, but also as a fully implemented practice that is making their communities safer and more vibrant."

Mayor Lucarelli and Bike OCNJ, represented by Co-chairs Thomas Heist and Drew Fasy, were presented with their awards at last Saturday's NJ Bike & Walk Summit at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey.

First Night Offers 8 Hours of New Year's Entertainment for Just $15

OCEAN CITY, N.J. --- First Night, Ocean City’s Gala New Year’s Eve celebration, offers a variety of entertainment for families and individuals for just $15 a person. After Dec. 15th, price will be $20. Buy your admission buttons now and take advantage of the discount.

The holiday gala features 76 entertainment programs at central locations from 4 p.m. till midnight. There will be a fireworks show at midnight, weather permitting.

Ocean City Receives State Award for Complete Streets Excellence

OCEAN CITY, N.J.: This Family Resort recently received the State of New Jersey’s “Complete Streets Excellence Award.” The City was commended “for instituting an all encompassing program to provide a “safe, multi-modal transportation system that is accessible to all.”

The transportation system of “honoree communities” must accommodate transit-riders, pedestrians, and cyclists as well as motorists. Roads must be safe for children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities as well as able-bodied adults. New Jersey’s “Complete Streets Movement” seeks to institutionalize these principles in all state communities.

Michael Dattilo Named Citizen of the Year

Ocean City, NJ - The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce is honored to announce the recipients of the Chamber’s 2015 Citizen of the Year Award and Outstanding Business and Beautification Awards.  The awards will be presented at the Chamber’s dinner Monday, November 16th at The Ocean City Yacht Club.

This year, the Citizen of the Year Award will be presented to Ocean City resident, Michael Dattilo. Mr. Dattilo has worked for the City of Ocean City in numerous capacities for more than three decades. He is the former Business Administrator for the City of Ocean City. As the Business Administrator, he was the chief operating officer, overseeing the following departments: Law, Community Services, Public Works, Financial Management, Police Services and Fire & Rescue Services. Additionally, Dattilo served as the Department Head for the following Divisions: Emergency Management, Engineering / Project Management, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Purchasing.

Clean Ocean Action to Receiver $2,200 From Beach Badge Jewelry Sales

Henry’s Fine Jewelry, 1236 Boardwalk, has created an on-going program to benefit the important environmental work of Clean Ocean Action. This past summer, the popular Boardwalk Jewelers, created an “Ocean City Beach Badge Bracelet.” A percentage of the sales generated by this popular item is donated to COA.

OC Board of Realtors Fall Golf Event to Benefit OC VFW Post 6650

The Ocean City Board of REALTORS® announces its Fall Golf Event, a fundraiser to benefit the Ocean City VFW Post 6650, at the Greate Bay Country Club, Egg Harbor Township, on Thursday, October 15, 2015.

Early Bird rate of $120 per golfer is available now through September 15th and after 9/15 the regular individual player rate is $140. The ticket price includes golf, lunch, dinner, and award/auction event. Registration starts at 11:00 a.m., the Shotgun Start is at 12:30 p.m. and dinner with an awards ceremony and silent auction is at 6:00 p.m. Dinner tickets are available for $50 per person.

Hermit Crab Beauty Pageant Set for Wednesday, August 5th

The Miss Crustacean Hermit Crab Beauty Pageant, an event eagerly awaited by crabs and their best friends alike, is set for 1 p.m., Wed., Aug. 5th at the 6th St. Beach.  Entry is free. Registration starts at noon on boardwalk between 5th and 6th Sts.

The contest is sanctioned by NASCRAB, the National Assn. of Crab Activities at the Beach, an Ocean City Organization. Several years ago OceanCity was contacted by Virginia Beach, Va. asking permission to run a similar event and was granted a franchise.

Past winners of Miss Crustacean include Crabopatra, an exotic Egyptian Crab, Copa Crabana, a sultry show girl crustacean, Crab Salad, Taxi Crab and Pirates of the Crabibbean.

Register Now for Ocean City Baby Parade

Registrations are now being taken for Ocean City’s 106th Baby Parade set for Thursday, August 13th  starting 5:30 p.m. Route is from 6th to 12 Sts. on the Boardwalk. It is the longest continuously running Baby Parade in the Country.

Photo engraver, Leo Bamberger, an organizer of Labor Day, founded the Parade in 1909. The event has featured many prominent grand marshals including baseball legend, Joe DiMaggio. Movie star Grace Kelley, a summer resident of Ocean City in her youth, was a big fan of the Parade.
