What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 6/16/10

The Miss New Jersey Parade will be held Wednesday, June 16th, starting 7 p.m. on the Ocean City Boardwalk. Route is from 6th to 14th Streets on Boardwalk. All 27 contestants will be dressed in unusual costumes. There will be music and floats.

The Miss New Jersey Scholarship Pageant begins Thursday June 17, with two preliminaries and the finals on Saturday. Some tickets are available, call Mary Lou Cake, 609-315-1423.

Pageant preliminaries will be held Thursday and Friday starting 7:30 p.m. with the final on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Ocean City Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The Pageant will be held in the Music Pier Auditorium, all programs begin at 7:30 p.m. Twenty-seven local pageant winners from throughout the State will be vying for the title. The winner goes to Las Vegas in January to compete in the Miss America Pageant. Miss America will be nationally televised by ABC.

Former Miss New Jersey and popular stand up comic, Dena Blizzard will emcee. Ocean City's Tricia Bowman Branch, Miss New Jersey 1988, will be a co-host with Erica Scanlan Harr, Miss New Jersey 2004.

Entertainers include American Idol Finalist, John Zisa, Georgine Di Maria, Miss New Jersey 2006, Ashley Shaffer, the reigning Miss New Jersey and Andi Babusik, reigning Miss New Jersey Outstanding Teen.The Pageant is directed and choreographed by Michael Ciuffo. Pageant Director is Lou Barthold.

Ocean City's Tribute to the Philippines, June 26-27, will feature a performance by world renowned entertainer, Imelda Papin, an international singing, movie and TV star. She will appear for one show only at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, at 8 p.m. on June 26. Tickets are $20 thanks to the events major sponsor, Western Union and others that are underwriting the performance.

The Festival also includes a Crafts and Cultural Exhibition on June 26-27 in the Pavilion area of the Music Pier. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. until the conclusion of the Papin concert on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Restaurant Week in Ocean City will have a colorful kick-off, the Hungryman Relay on Sun., June 20 from noon till 2 p.m. on Asbury Ave from 5th to 9th Streets. This is a team relay for the benefit of the Food Bank of New Jersey sponsored by Ocean City Magazine. Participants run to different stations, gulp some food including pizza and donuts. Restaurant Week will run from June 20 to June 27. You will be able to enjoy two for one prices at over fifty participating restaurants.

Night In Venice: Registrations are now being taken for the boat, home and condo competition of Night in Venice, Sat., July 24. The colorful boat parade and bay front home celebration is set for Sat., July 24 starting 7:30 p.m. by the Longport Bridge. Cash prizes will be awarded to the best decorated boats and homes. Is your doggie Dog of the Year Material? That's a silly question, isn't it? Of course, no other is more deserving. Okay then. Enter your pet in the Dog Park's contest. Deadline for application is June 20. The Committee will select 12 canines to compete for the honor. Applications are available at City Hall Annex and other locations. The Ocean City Historical Museum's Fifth Annual Sindia Miniature Golf Day at Playland's Seaport Village, between 9th and 10th Streets on the Boardwalk is set for Thurs., July 1 from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. The event is free but a ticket must be picked up at the Museum 17th and Simpson Ave. The program is sponsored by Playland and the Ocean City Exchange Club.

Under the Boardwalk is the theme of the Ocean City Arts Center's June gallery exhibit. Artists portray the area through marine life, children playing in the sand, etc.The exhibit is free and runs through June 30 at the Center 17th and Simpson Ave., call 399-7628. J
