What's Happening in Ocean City 6/23/10

Ocean City's Tribute to the Philippines will be held this weekend at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The highlight of the event will be the appearance of Imelda Papin, world renowned singer, movie star and TV personality who will appear at the Music Pier on Sat., June 26 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20, available at the Music Pier Box Office, 609-525-9248, City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., 525-9300, after hours call 609-364-4010.

The weekend will also feature a free Two Day Crafts and Cultural Festival that will include Philippine products and the history of the country at the Music Pier. The Festival will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sat., June 26 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sun., June 27.

Ocean City welcomes another singing legend this weekend. Patti Page will open the season for the Ocean City Pops Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Pier auditorium. Patti has sold over 100 million records...The concert is sponsored by Shriver's Salt Water Taffy, Fudge and Gelato. Tickets are $25 and $20, available at the Music Pier Box Office, 609-525-9248.

Antique Auto Show : Over 300 vehicles will be featured in the City's Antique Auto Show set for Sat., June 26 at the Tabernacle Grounds, 6th and Asbury Ave. The show runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and is followed by a Boardwalk Parade from 6th to 14th Streets. The Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale will perform at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 8th and Central Ave., on June 26 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, children under 12 are free. Call 609-399-2988.

Restaurant Week continues through June 27. You will be able to enjoy two for one prices for breakfast, lunch and dinner at participating restaurants.

Ocean City Farmer's and Crafter's Market begins Wednesday, June 30th and runs every Wednesday through August from 8am-1pm at 6th and Asbury. Jersey Fresh produce and hand made crafts.

Historic Inn-to-Inn Tours begin Thursday, July 1st and run every Thursday through August. Tours begin at 2pm. Tickets are $13 per person. Trolley boards at the ticket booth at the corner of 7th and Central Ave beginning at 1:30pm. Tickets may be pre-purchased at the Ocean City Welcome Center at 16 East 9th Street.

Coming Soon: The renowned Kauriga Balalaika Orchestra will perform a lively program of Russian, Ukrainian and Slavic Folk music at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace on Sat., July 3. Folk dancers and singers will be included in the program. Tickets are $5, available at the door.

Night In Venice : Registrations are now being taken for the boat, home and condo competition of Night In Venice, Sat., July 24. The colorful boat and bay front celebration will start 7:30 p.m. by the Longport Bridge. $1,000 cash prizes will be awarded to the best decorated home and boat and $500 cash prizes to the three runners-up in both categories. There will be non cash prizes in boat categories under and over 24 ft. and non-cash prizes for homes. Boat parade participants will be given $50 cash cards to enhance their decorations. The City's July Jubilee Celebration starts June 28 with a week of free, fun-filled contests at the Music Pier. Mon., July 28 is Salt Water Taffy Sculpting, Tues. the 29th is French Fry Sculpting, Wed., the 30th is That's The Way The Cookie Crumbles, (sculpt something out of a huge cookie) plus a Super Hero Impersonation contest), Thurs. July 1 is Clip Art, make something artistic out of paper clips and Fri., July 2 is Xtreme Hermit Crab Wrestling (extremely non-violent).

July 4th : On July 4th there will be a kite flying competition by Air Circus at 5:30 p.m. on the 9th St. Beach. At 9 p.m., there will a spectacular fireworks display shot from a barge off the 9th St. Beach.

Bike Parades : The Gardens Civic Assn. will have is annual Bike Parade on July 3 starting at the Longport Bridge. Registration is 9 a.m., Parade at 10 a.m. The South Ocean City Assn's Parade will be on July 5 starting at 40th and Asbury Ave.. Registration starts at 9 a.m., Parade at 10 a.m.

Under the Boardwalk is the theme of the Ocean City Arts Center's June gallery exhibit. Artists portray the area through marine life, children playing in the sand, etc.The exhibit is free and runs through June 30 at the Center 17th and Simpson Ave., call 399-7628.

The Ocean City Historical Museum invites families to its weekly Wednesdays for Kids program. Drop by the Museum every Wednesday, from July 7th thru August 25th, for a fun, half-hour program including a mini-tour and art-making activity at 10:30, 11:30, or 1:00. The program is recommended for children ages 4 to 9 years old. Younger and older siblings are welcomed. Cost is $3/per person. No registration required. For more information call 399.1801.
