September 11th Ceremony Thurs., Air Shows to Follow

The City will hold its September 11th   Patriot Day Ceremony on Thursday starting 7p.m. at Ocean City Fire Headquarters, 550 Asbury Ave. The program includes Striking of the Four Fives, James Smith, Deputy Fire Chief of Ocean City Fire and Rescue Services; Presentation of the Colors, L/Cpl George L. Dramis, Marine Corps Color Guard; Flag Salute, Bob Marzulli, Commander, American Legion Post 524 and Michael Morrissey, Commander, VFW Post 6650; National Anthem, Julia Mary Wilson; Retire the Colors.

Invocation, Rev. John Jamieson, Ocean City Fire Department Chaplain; Introduction of dignitaries, Michael Dattilo, Ocean City Business Administrator; Keynote speaker, Ocean City Chief of Police, Chad Callahan; Laying of Wreath, Ocean City Police and Fire Department representatives; Amazing Grace, Jack Meehan Bagpipes; Remarks and Benediction, Rev. Gregory Johnson, Shiloh Baptist Church, and the Singing of God Bless America by Elizabeth Toal of the Ocean City Theatre Co. 

Two free AIR SHOWS are set for the weekend: The City’s ANNUAL AIR FESTIVAL will be held at the Municipal Airport, 26th and Bay Ave., on Sat., Sept. 13th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature a ground display of a B25J Mitchell World War II Bomber plus a WWW II Grumman TBM Avenger.

 

The Airport runway will be covered with interesting aircraft including Classics, Antiques, Ultralights, Warbirds and Homebuilts. There will be military vehicles and antique cars on display. Also scheduled are air demonstrations, a paper airplane contest for children, face painting, music and refreshments for sale. Helicopter and Airplane rides will be available for purchase.

An exciting feature of the festival is the Model Airplane Demonstration by the New Jersey Pine Barons RC Club of Mt. Laurel. Miniature Jets will zoom at 100 miles per hour and model planes will ascend and plunge over the runway.

A BUBBLEMANIA event will be held by the Ocean City Board of Realtors featuring bubble blowing activities for children of all ages. The event raises funds for Pediatric Care at Shore Medical Center.

There will be free parking and shuttle service to the festival from the Shelter Road Lot off Bay and Tennessee Aves.

On Sun., Sept. 14, a thrilling AEROBATIC AIR SHOW is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with planes spanning the Beach and Boardwalk from 6th to 14th Streets. The event features Team AeroDynamix Formation Sensation, the world’s largest air show team. Also featured are Bill Gordon and the Stearman, the Raiders Flight Demonstration Team, Jason Flood Pitts S1-T Aerobatics and more. Call (609) 525-9300 or visit www.ocnj.us.

COMING SOON: On Sun., Sept. 21 the Boardwalk CORVETTES roll into Ocean City with over 400 cars including every model of the colorful car ever produced. (Sept. 10) The Ocean City Pops presents A NIGHT IN OLD VIENNA. 7:30 p.m. at the Music Pier featuring Chloe Moore and Stephen LaBrie. (Sept. 14) Enjoy SEASONAL DELIGHTS, a program by the Ocean City Pops Orchestra 7:30 p.m. at the Hughes Performing Arts Center, Ocean City High School, 6th and Atlantic Ave. Award winning violinist Elena Urisote plays the enchanting Bruch Concerto and trumpeter Steven Franklin performs the brilliant Tomasi Concerto. (Sept. 17) Jack Devine, a 32 year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency and author of a recent memoir, “Good Hunting, an American SPYMASTER’S Story,” will be guest speaker at the Ocean City Historical Museum’s 51st Annual luncheon, noon, at the Flanders Hotel. (Sept. 27) Operation First Response WALK FOR THE WOUNDED, a three mile walk on the Boardwalk, begins and ends at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Registration is 8:30 a.m., ceremony honoring our military, 9:30 a.m. and walk at 10 a.m. Special guest will be Phil Martelli, head coach of St. Joseph’s University Basketball Team. (Sept. 27) The MS CITY TO SHORE Ride, one of the largest bicycle events in the Country, raises $5.6 million to make a difference in the lives of people affected by Multiple Sclerosis.
