Ocean City is fortunate to have a historic FISHING CLUB. For the past three years its members have invited visitors to stroll the 635 ft. Pier, watch surfcasting demonstrations and take photos from a magnificent location.

Visitors have also learned about the remarkable history of the Club. It is the oldest, continuously operating facility of its kind in the nation. It has hosted national surfcasting events and has given back to the City by supporting its Food Cupboard.

There are two open house tours this summer. One held this Thursday (July 23) and one on August 6th from 6 to 8 p.m. They coincide with the City’s popular Family Nights on the Boardwalk. Please bring canned goods or non perishable foods for the Food Cupboard for entrance. Ocean City is fortunate to have a Theatre Company that presents many Children’s programs and Broadway Productions for adults. It’s Michael Hartman’s GREATER OCEAN CITY THEATRE COMPANY. There are two summer children’s programs remaining: “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day” on (July 27) and “The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig” on (Aug. 3). Ocean City is fortunate to have THE OCEAN CITY POPS ORCHESTRA, for 87 years entertaining our visitors and area communities with outstanding popular and classical music all summer long. On (July 26), the Pops presents OUR THREE TENORS featuring Cody Austin, Richard Troxel and Jeffrey Halili, three nationally acclaimed singers 8 p.m. at the Music Pier. Tickets are $20. Ocean City is fortunate to have its own professional soccer team, THE NOR’EASTERS that present exciting contests during the summer. On (July 26) our team takes on the EDP U 23 All Stars in a match at 7 p.m., Carey Stadium, 6th and Boardwalk. Tickets are available at www.oceancityfc.com/tickets

Ocean City is fortunate to have an outstanding Boardwalk Monday Night Concert Series at the Music Pier featuring world famous rock and folk performers. Remaining concerts feature DAVE MASON’S Traffic Jam on (July 27), the DAVID BROMBERG Quartet with guest DAR WILLIAMS and hosted by Gene Shay on (Aug. 3), RUSTED ROOT plus Chris Barron of the Spin Doctors on (Aug. 17). All concerts at 7:30 p.m.

Then on (Aug. 24-25), THE BEACH BOYS come to town for concerts at 6 and 8:30 p.m. The Aug. 24 concerts are sold out. Ocean City is fortunate to be able to host events like the CHIP MILLER SURF FEST on (July 24), 7 a.m. check in time, 8 a.m. start, 7th Street Beach. $35 per surfer. The event benefits Amyloidosis research and awareness. Partnering with Waves of Caring, The Surf Fest and Chip Miller Foundation was formed in memory of Chip Miller who died of Amyloidosis. Note: The Surfest after party will be held 6 p.m. at the Ocean City Water Park. Guests are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for Ocean City’s Waves of Caring Christmas Drive.

Ocean City is also pleased to host the OCBP WOMEN’S LIFEGUARD Invitational Races on (July 29) starting 6:15 p.m. at the 34th Street Beach. Women representing the 15 beach patrols on the South Jersey Coast compete in this race. For more information, call (609) 399-6111.

The Ocean City Pops return on (July 29) with THE MUSIC OF CAROLE KING & JAMES TAYLOR. Hit songwriter Kirsti Manna and national recording artist Jonathan Birchfield join the Pops to perform American Song Book classics. Highlights include How Sweet It Is, Fire and Rain, Natural Woman, Up on the Roof, You Got a Friend. Ocean City is fortunate to host the 15th Annual ART OF SURFING at the Music Pier (July 30-Aug.1) Artists from throughout the Country will show their work in all mediums at the event. Many visitors attend the free, three day show that features live music, meet the artist sessions, book signings, displays of surf art and memorabilia, demonstrations and more. Ocean City is fortunate to have an award winning downtown with over 100 specialty stores plus restaurants. The downtown features Funtastic Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Entertainment, Face Painters, pony rides, characters and balloon sculptors until the end of August; a Farmers Market every Wednesday at the Tabernacle Grounds from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with crafters at 6th St. until Sept. 9; plus Market Days every Thursday 10 a.m. to 1p.m. on Asbury Ave. with face painters, pony rides, characters, entertainment and Balloon Sculptors.

Ocean City is fortunate to have an award winning boardwalk with Mummer’s Night on Tues. from 7 to 9 p.m. strutting 6th to 14th Streets. Sponsored by Henry’s, Prep’s Pizza, Ocean Paradise and Shrivers.  Family Nights is held every Thurs. through the end of August. The evening features entertainment from 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. between 6th and 14th Streets sponsored by OC Water Park, Henry’s, Johnson’s Popcorn and Playland’s Castaway Cove. There are also Character Nights on the Boardwalk every Sunday through Aug. 23. Ocean City is fortunate to have two Arts Centers that present free monthly exhibits: The Ocean City Arts Center, 17th and Simpson Ave., (609) 399-7628 which also provides a program all year of classes for all ages and the Ocean City Fine Arts League, 608 Asbury Ave., that offers painting classes for area artists, call (609) 814-0308.

In an effort to encourage student artists to exhibit their work, the Ocean City Arts Center is offering them free space in its Boardwalk Art Show Aug. 7-9. Spaces for the show cost $125. The Center does not take any commission for work sold during this event.

FUNTASTIC TUESDAYS: Held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Asbury Avenue features free balloon sculptors, face painters, fun for the entire family. Also, there are 100 fine specialty stores to investigate. Plus numerous restaurants in the downtown where you can have breakfast or lunch while enjoying the free stuff.

 

MUMMERS NIGHT: Also on Tuesdays, enjoy Mummers Night on the Boardwalk, with String Bands strutting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Enjoy a great evening on Ocean City's Award Winning Boardwalk. Sponsored by Shriver's, Ocean Paradise, Prep's Pizza, and Henry's.

 

BEACH WALKS: Also on Tuesdays and Wednesdays take an informative and pleasant guided beach walk for a nominal price. Walk starts at South End Location, 59th and Central Ave. at the entrance to Corson's Park, Tuesdays at 9 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. There's a Walk from the north end starting at the Longport Bridge Parking lot (Gardens Parkway) Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Tickets are available on site, Adults $1, Children 50 cents.

 

FARMERS MARKET: Held at Tabernacle Grounds every Wednesday with crafters on Asbury Ave. at 6th St., 8 a.m.-1 p.m. You can stroll free and buy stuff at economical prices now through Sept. 9th.

 

MARKET DAYS: Every Thursday through  the end of August on Asbury Ave. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Includes free entertainment (magicians, etc.) free face painters and balloon sculptors plus free pony rides for the kids at the Tabernacle, 6th and Asbury Ave.

 

HISTORIC AND INN-TO-INN TOURS: presented by the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers of Ocean City are every Thursday in July and August from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.  Tickets are $14 per person, which includes transportation by trolley and a guided tour.  Catch the trolley at the Ticket Booth located at the 7th Street and Central Avenue parking lot (metered parking is available).  Tickets are available at the Welcome Center on the Rt.52 Causeway and at the ticket booth.  Each tour is different and includes an excursion to four different historic locations which may include inns, the Historic Flanders Hotel, the Historic Ocean City Lifesaving Station, the Ocean City Historical Museum, or a Beachwalk and a sightseeing tour of the City's historic district. For more information, please call 609-399-1412 or visit on the internet at
