8/26/15 - Ploppers, Air Shows, Street Rods Coming Soon

Some exciting events and one goofy one are scheduled soon. The goofy one will be first. It's the King and Queen of Plop Pageant set for Friday (Sept. 4th) 11a.m. at the Ninth Street Beach. Contestants are asked to greet the fall season by performing dramatic plops on the beach. Winners will be named The KING AND QUEEN OF PLOP (or Mr. Fall Guy and Miss Fall Gal 2015).

Participants will perform in slow motion to add to the drama and avoid injury. There will be categories in various age groups, male and female. Ribbons will be awarded to category winners. The two best entrants will be crowned King and Queen of Plop. Entry in the contest is free. Register starting 10:30 a.m. at Ninth St. Beach opposite Music Pier. Call (609) 399-6111 for information.

A group of non-competing celebrity Ploppers will open the event. They include Super Soprano, Nancy Fox with the Fox Vocal Arts Ploppers; Yo Yo Plopper, Doug Jewell and Suzanne Muldowney, AKA Shelley, the Mermaid. Music will be provided by the World's Only Wind Chimes Band.

 

The first of two FREE AIR SHOWS will be held on Saturday (Sept. 12) at the Ocean City Municipal Airport, 26th and Bay Ave., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature ground displays of a B-25J Mitchell Bomber and WWII Grumman TBM Avenger. There will be air demonstrations, a Paper Airplane Contest, Face Painting and Food Vendors.

Ground displays will feature Classics, Antiques, Ultralights, Warbirds, Homebuilts, Military Vehicles and Antique Cars. The New Jersey Pine Barons RC Club of Mt. Laurel will present exciting model airplane demonstrations with miniature jets soaring 100 miles per hour. Helicopter and Airplane Rides will be available for purchase and there will be free shuttle service from a Shelter Road lot located off Bay and Tennessee Ave. Admission is free. (Sept.12) STREET ROD EXHIBITION: This popular rally, features modified, classic cars on display. It will celebrate its 41st year with a one day exhibition. Cars will be featured at Tabernacle Grounds, 550 Wesley Ave., from 8 a.m. until noon, and then be shown on the Boardwalk until 4 p.m. Many of the vehicles are enhanced by artwork. (Sept. 14) 20th Annual SUNSHINE FOUNDATION GOLF CLASSIC: It benefits the Foundation which for 38 years has granted the wishes of over 37,000 seriously ill, physically challenged and abused children. NOW UNDER WAY: The Ocean City Arts Center, 17th and Simpson Ave., is presenting "Finding Art in Architecture through the month of September. Ocean City, Cape May County Photographer, Alexander Sharkey will show his work through Sept. 30th. The show turns concrete surroundings on edge and questions the viewers' perception of architecture. HISTORIC AND INN-TO-INN TOURS: presented by the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers of Ocean City are every Thursday through August 27th from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Tickets are $14 per person, which includes transportation by trolley and a guided tour. Catch the trolley at the Ticket Booth located at the 7th Street and Central Avenue parking lot (metered parking is available).
