OCTC Promises a Lovely Night with Cinderella
Wednesday, 24 August 2016
The Middle School Jr. Co of Ocean City Theatre Company is currently in preparation for their summer production, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (g2k version). This timeless classic runs at the Ocean City Music Pier on Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $12 -$15.00 and can be reserved by calling 609-399-6111 or by visiting ocnj.us/boxoffice
In this well known fairy tale, our heroine (Julie Stinson) lives as a virtual slave to her stepmother (Emily Torrence) and her two stepsisters (Julia Wilson and Ashleigh Martin). She dreams of attending the ball that the King and Queen (Aidan Brandt and Anastasia Cwietniewicz) are throwing for their son (Scott Avellino). Will the prince find a bride at the ball? With help from her Fairy Godmother (Bridget Douqherty), Cinderella’s dreams are brought to reality. Told in a lighthearted, comedic fashion, Hammerstein’s message is that no matter what situation you happen to be in, there is hope that you can make your wishes and dreams come true.
Show highlights include “In My Own Little Corner”, “Impossible”, “Ten Minutes Ago”, “A Lovely Night” and a delightfully wicked lament from a pair of jealous stepsisters.
Among the classics of musical theater, one of the most cherished productions is one that was originally created for television: Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, starring Julie Andrews, was watched by an astounding 107 million viewers during its 1957 CBS network premiere. This version has recently been released to go with the 1965 adaptation starring Lesley Ann Warren, and a 1997 version starring pop signers, Brandy and Whitney Houston. The OCTC production is under the director of Don Toal, Jr. with choreography by Lisa Toal and music direction by Betsy Pruitt-Harrison.
This production is produced with permission by R&H Theatricals and is part of the Getting To Know You (G2K) Series, a collection of classic musicals for pre-high school students.
"Impossible things are happening every day!" sings the Godmother in Rodgers & Hammerstein's musical fairy tale, CINDERELLA and impossible things will happen when you see OCTC’s young performers shine as they bring this timeless tale to life.
